Ewe and Ram Finsheep Available
Our ewe, Blossom, and our ram, Billy, are proven breeders. Our other Finns come in various colors, including the scarce brown, fawn, and grey.
About The Breed
The Finnish Landrace, Finn or Finnsheep is a breed notable for its docile demeanor and high incidence of multiple births (two or more lambs at once). The lambs are often small, but vigorous. The lambs mature early and can be mated at six months of age. Ewes commonly breed out of season and some may lamb twice in a year.
Wool
The fineness of Finnsheep wool has some individual variation, but the American Sheep Industry’s Wool Council ranks Finnsheep in the fine end of the medium wool category. The wool has a soft handle, a moderate crimp and a high luster. White is genetically dominant and the most common color. Black and black piebald (spotted) are also fairly common, while brown, grey and fawn are very scarce.
Meat
Although not a large sheep, Finns produce a lean, succulent meat with a delicate and mild flavor, even as adults.
Easy-keeper for Hand Spinners
Finnsheep are a wonderful breed for the handspinner. Due to their small size and docile nature, they are easy to handle. They do not have horns, which can be destructive or get caught in fencing. They are also easy keepers. Best of all, Finnsheep are friendly! Many handspinners enjoy keeping just a few sheep for their own enjoyment, for fiber and companionship. Wethers (neutered males) make wonderful fiber pets and are often even more tame and friendly than the ewes.
